The "Emirates Sports Federation for School and University Education Institutions" held the first board meeting through remote communication technology, headed by Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education and Chairman of the General Sports Authority.

The meeting comes after the adoption of the formation of the new federation in December of 2021, by merging the Emirates School Sports Federation and the Emirates University Sports Federation, to improve the mechanism for discovering talents at an early age and ensuring their continuity of development.

The Federation’s Board of Directors includes representatives from all educational authorities, in a way that supports the inclusiveness of the sports movement and enhances coordination between the education and sports sectors.

The meeting included studying the reality of school and university sports, developing solutions to develop them by providing the appropriate climate for talent discovery, and setting long-term plans in which the educational sector participates with the athlete, with the aim of developing a talent discovery mechanism and paving the way for it to achieve global achievements.

Al Falasi said in a press statement: “The new federation reflects the concerted national efforts, in cooperation between the authority, the educational sector and all strategic partners, in strengthening the sports work system, by developing a mechanism for discovering sports talents and empowering them in schools and universities to supply the country’s sports teams with renewed talents, as well as providing The best capabilities and investment in its facilities in order to reach a more prosperous future for UAE sport.

The Federation also aims to enhance coordination between the various educational institutions in terms of sports.

The new union targets all students in the various schools of the Emirates, who number approximately one million and 174 thousand students.

The meeting dealt with the reality of sports in the 35 affiliated universities, and discussed ways to attract other universities.

The joining universities also witnessed the holding of five sports workshops targeting 451 students in the last stage, and five virtual tournaments have been participated in the last three years, with extensive achievements recorded.

The first meeting of the federation coincided with the appointment of Al Falasi as Minister of Education, which enhances the level of coordination between the sports and educational sectors to achieve the goals of the new federation, which aspires to discover talents from a young age. The sports sector, whether as athletes, administrators, referees, journalists or researchers in sports fields, as well as working to provide the best possible support for sports teachers by empowering them technically, and establishing an electronic system that helps them to register complete data for all students.
