After last year's barking final appearance at the US Open, Leylah Fernandez may be on her way to a new grand slam success.

The 19-year-old Canadian, ranked 18th in the world, is ready for the quarterfinals of the French tennis championships.

Fernandez advanced further after defeating American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Fernandez will face unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan, 28. Trevisan defeated Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich in two straight sets and is thus in a grand slam quarterfinal for the second time in his career.

Later on Sunday, 18-year-old Coco Gauff, ranked 23rd, advanced to the quarterfinals for the second year in a row.

The American won in two straight sets 6-4, 6-0, against the Belgian Elise Mertens.

- I just enjoy the tournament and life.

I do not think about the end result, says Gauff according to AFP.

Gauff is up against compatriot Sloane Stephens who easily defeated the Swiss Jil Teichmann 6–2, 6–0.
