The USA, last year's bronze medalist, seemed to be heading for a convincing victory in the bronze match against the Czech Republic on Sunday afternoon.
The Americans had the lead with 2-1 after the first period and Karson Kuhlman then increased to 3-1 in the second with his second goal of the match.
With eight minutes left in the period, the Czech Republic made a significant reduction - for the third period then the Czechs.
David Pastrnak's equalizer came after 51 seconds and less than two minutes later the team had turned around.
Roman Cervenka put 4-3 to the cheers of his teammates.
But it did not end there.
Pastnark poured in 5-3 just over a minute later.
David Kampf then managed to make it 6-3 with five minutes left.
The United States hunted intensely but without catching up.
When the USA picked out the goalkeeper, Kampf managed to arrange 7-3.
A consolation goal, 4-7, got the Americans in.
The bronze will be the Czech Republic's sixth.
The last time the team won a medal was in 2012 when they also took a bronze.
Two years earlier, the team took its latest gold.
Tonight, Finland and Canada meet in the final.
