Novak Djokovic continues to be in top form at the French Open.

The world number one from Serbia won his round of 16 against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman 6: 1, 6: 3, 6: 3 in Paris on Sunday and showed a convincing performance.

After 2:15 hours, Djokovic used his second match ball at the Stade Roland Garros.

In the quarterfinals, there could now be a tennis classic between Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The 13-time Paris champion from Spain meets Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada in his round of 16 late Sunday afternoon.

Djokovic wants to draw level with Nadal

Djokovic had everything under control on the Suzanne Lenglen court from the start.

The 35-year-old, who missed the Australian Open at the beginning of the year due to his lack of a coronavirus vaccination, played with great concentration and did not allow himself any weakness.

Schwartzman, who was in the semi-finals in Paris in 2020, never had anything to oppose the defending champion.

“I am very satisfied with my performance.

But it's not over yet," said Djokovic, who is aiming for his 21st Grand Slam title in Paris.

He would draw level with Nadal.

Meanwhile, unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan also reached the quarter-finals in Paris.

The 28-year-old prevailed on Sunday in a hard-fought match over 1:59 hours 7:6 (12:10), 7:5 against Aljaksandra Sasnowitsch (Belarus).

Sasnowitsch had thrown the three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber out of the tournament in the third round.

Trevisan had already reached the last eight in Paris in 2020.

Her next opponent is US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez (Canada), who defeated Amanda Anisimova of the US 6-3 4-6 6-3.

18-year-old Coco Gauff (USA) also got her ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6:4, 6:0 against Elise Mertens from Belgium.
