Iran believes that "politics" is behind Canada's decision to cancel the two-elect's friendly

An Iranian official considered today that "politics" is behind the Canadian Football Association's decision to cancel a friendly match against its Iranian counterpart, as part of their preparations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Canadian Football Association unilaterally announced yesterday that the match against Iran, which was scheduled for June 5, was cancelled. In Vancouver, as part of the two teams' preparations for the World Cup in Qatar, after a campaign of widespread criticism for the establishment of this meeting, most notably by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Kazem Gharibabadi, deputy head of the Iranian judiciary for international affairs, said that the decision to cancel "is evidence that the so-called land of the free cannot keep politics off the playing field," in a tweet via Twitter.

The Canadian Federation, in a brief statement yesterday, was satisfied with announcing the cancellation of the match, without additional information or explaining the reasons.

However, the move came after weeks of criticism of the match led by the Canadian government.

On Tuesday, Trudeau reiterated his opposition to holding the match, hinting at the possibility of not granting Iranian players visas to enter the country.
