The American basketball master coach Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors reacted to the recent school massacre in the USA with an emotional speech.

"When are we going to do something?" Kerr yelled at a press conference ahead of the Dallas Mavericks playoff game on Tuesday night (local time).

"I'm fed up, I've had enough!"

Earlier, an 18-year-old killed at least 19 children in an elementary school in the US state of Texas.

It is one of the deadliest school massacres in US history.

At least two adults also died in the incident in the small town of Uvalde.

According to initial reports, the shooter was killed by security forces.

Kerr, a champion with the Chicago Bulls as a player alongside Michael Jordan, therefore did not want to talk about basketball.

Visibly moved and shaking, the 56-year-old said: "I'm tired of it.

I'm so tired of getting up here and offering my condolences to the devastated families out there.” Kerr's voice faltered, and he slammed his hand on the table several times.

Kerr called for stricter gun control in the United States and addressed 50 senators who have so far prevented it.

The eight-time NBA champion has long spoken out against gun violence.

His father was shot dead in a terrorist attack in Beirut, Lebanon in 1984.

Other athletes also commented on the school massacre, including Dallas coach Jason Kidd.

The Mavericks' game against the Warriors started with a minute's silence.

Dallas won 119-109, cutting to 3-1 in the NBA Playoffs Semifinals series.
