Falun was the only candidate for the championship.

Falun has four times before hosted the World Ski Championships.

The first time was in 1954, when an audience record was set already during the premiere day.

20 years later, in 1974, it was time again and for that championship, the Lugnet facility had been developed with, among other things, the ski stadium and the ski jumps.

In 1993, Falun got the hosting again and then the home jumper Torgny Mogren shone when he took Sweden's only medal - the gold in the five miles.

2015 was the last World Cup in Falun, where Charlotte Kalla's four medals and scandal-ridden Petter Northug's gold harvest (four!) Stand out.
