The 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup was scheduled to be played in St. Petersburg, Russia, but due to Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine, Russia has lost its host.

Instead, the Ice Hockey World Cup 2023 will apparently be played in the same city as it is partly played in right now, ie Finnish Tampere.

Today, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced that the only bid is Tampere together with Riga - where the World Cup was played last year.

Earlier this month, Hungary-Slovenia had also announced that they wanted the 2023 World Cup, but they have withdrawn their bid due to the Hungarian ice hockey federation not receiving sufficient guarantees from the government.

On Friday, the IIHF Congress will make the final decision on next year's World Cup.
