The decision is strong.

The Val-de-Marne football district has decided not to appoint referees for the last two days of the season.

This initiative was taken after the aggression of three referees since the beginning of May, explains

Le Parisien

.

The decision was communicated to the 193 clubs in the district on Monday evening.

500 matches affected

This strike will impact 500 matches of all age categories.

Only around thirty Division 1 matches are not affected by this decision.

Matches must be refereed by volunteer club leaders.

"I proposed this radical measure because we can no longer send the guys to coal in this catastrophic context, they must be respected and their safety must be ensured", explained José Dias, president of the departmental commission of the arbitration of Val-de-Marne, quoted in

L'Equipe

.

According to the sports daily, two referees received headbutts and another was jostled during an invasion of the field.

Disciplinary procedures have been launched against the clubs and players involved and complaints have been lodged.
