When he fell during Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 24, the cause seemed settled: Julian Alaphilippe was going to have to give up on the next Tour de France, which will start on July 1 from Copenhagen, Denmark.

A month after his hemopneumothorax, his fractured scapula and two broken ribs, the double world champion has not yet abdicated.

“The Tour de France option is always open, it is always on my mind,” said the 29-year-old Frenchman in a press release published on Tuesday by his Quick-Step team.

"But it's really important that we don't rush anything and that we continue to be patient," added the Bourbonnais, who has not decided on his recovery race.

Alaphilippe joined his teammates for an altitude course in the Sierra Nevada.

Before heading to the south of Spain, he had a final examination in Herentals (Belgium) where he was treated after his serious fall.

“The good news was that my lung was fully recovered, which of course I was very happy about.

The broken bones were still painful, which is completely normal as these injuries take longer to recover, but I was told that I had the green light to start training,” Alaphilippe explained, as quoted by its formation.

On the roads of the Sierra Nevada

“I spent a few days on the rollers, it was great, but I was really happy to be able to try and spend a few hours on the road.

After a few days, I didn't have any bad feelings and it was decided that I join the team for the Sierra Nevada training camp,” he continued.

"Of course, I can't do the same job as all the guys here yet because I need time to train and get back into shape and I still have to be careful not to push my injuries too much," said added Alaphilippe.

“We have perfect conditions for training.

Every day I am improving and I hope to continue like this”.

U.S. too.
