French star Kilian Mbappe said that Liverpool was one of the clubs that negotiated with him before he decided to continue with Paris Saint-Germain, noting that he also met with the officials of the English club in 2017, when he was playing for Monaco.

Mbappe has been linked to Real Madrid for a long time amid strong expectations of his transfer this summer, but he surprised the Spanish champions by extending his contract with Saint-Germain until 2025 last week.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp revealed earlier in May that his club was interested in including Mbappe, and the French striker had already admitted contacting the runners-up of the English champions.

Mbappe told the Daily Telegraph: "We talked a little, but not a lot. I contacted Liverpool because it is my mother's favorite club. She loves Liverpool and I don't know why, you should ask her."

"It is a big club and we met 5 years ago when I was in Monaco, of course the race was between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the end," the French star added.

Liverpool will play Real Madrid in Paris next Saturday in the Champions League final, and Mbappe confirmed that he would encourage Real in this match.
