It was in January 2020 that Hegerberg suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

The first message was that the Norwegian would be gone for six months, but it took a full 20 months - and three operations - before she made a real comeback in October 2021.

The 26-year-old is now a champion in the Champions League with Lyon.

- This will be with one for the rest of life, the Norwegian exclaims after the final against Barcelona on Saturday night.

"It means everything"

She describes her 59th Champions League goal, which came in the match, as "an adventure".

And the journey back to football's absolute best scene has been long and tough - but worth the effort, she says.

- It means everything, with the hard work behind it.

These have been short-term and long-term goals.

Long and tough days, she says and continues:

- A year ago I sat on the couch with my leg in a high position, and was far below this level and now I'm back here and it's sick, it's so huge.
