Switzerland had gone undefeated through Group A after the four initial matches.

But the toughest opposition, Canada, had not yet been encountered.

This was done on Saturday afternoon in a match that was of the more entertaining kind.

Switzerland team captain Nico Hischier had a puck over the goal line after nine minutes of play but had to see it ruled out.

Approved goals would, however, be in the first period, six more precisely.

The super talent Kent Johnson gave Canada the lead 11.52 into the period when he nicely walled in 1-0 via the Swiss goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni, and after that the goals rattled in - in both directions.

Jonas Siegenthaler put an end to the goal cavalcade in the first period when he put 3-3 with nine seconds left.

The goals did not come at the same pace during the rest of the event.

Genoni nailed it again between the Swiss posts and then it was enough with goals from Nico Hischier, Pius Suter and Timo Meier for Switzerland to win 6-3.

This tops Group A with a maximum of 15 points in five matches, three ahead of Canada.

Finland, which plays in Sweden's group B, also played on Saturday afternoon.

Against Austria, they took a planned victory with 3-0 after another held zero by goalkeeper Jussi Olkinuora.

Olkinuora, who did not play in the 2-3 loss against Tre Kronor, has had the chance in four of Finland's six World Cup matches and has only conceded one goal.

Finland tops Group B with 16 points.

Tre Kronor is second on 12 points, but has one match less played.
