A few days ago, German Michael Zorc, the former sporting director of Dortmund, passed away after 24 years spent inside the walls of the "Festival Lions" team.

The presence of the former player in the German team brought about half a billion euros into the treasury of the team known for discovering emerging talents and contracting with them for small amounts, then refining their talent, and selling them for tens of millions of euros.

The last of these deals was the sale of the Norwegian Erling Haaland to Manchester City for 75 million euros (the penalty clause in the contract) after he joined - two years ago - from Austrian Salzburg for only 20 million, making 55 million euros in just two years.

The largest amount that Dortmund achieved was from the deal to sell Frenchman Osman Dembele to Barcelona in 2017, as the deal was concluded for 105 million euros, knowing that the German club had included him for 35 million euros.

And the list of players that the German team achieved from selling profits amounted to 460 million euros includes:

  • French Dembele: 105 million euros (Barcelona)

  • England's Jadon Sancho: 64.4 million euros (Manchester United)

  • American Christian Pulisic: 64 million euros (Chelsea)
