Formula 1 leader Charles Leclerc had an expensive accident with the former car of former world champion Niki Lauda.

The 24-year-old crashed into the barriers on Sunday in his home country of Monaco at the traditional Grand Prix Historique on the streets of the Principality with the Ferrari 312B3, which the Austrian Lauda had already driven in the mid-1970s.

After all, the Ferrari star was able to continue driving in the car, which was badly battered at the rear.

The car is valued at several million US dollars.

"When you think you've already had all the bad luck in the world in Monaco and then lose the brakes in the Rascasse corner with one of the most iconic historic Ferrari Formula 1 cars," Leclerc commented on his faux pas himself on Twitter.

Videos of the bitter accident, in which Leclerc at least sustained no injuries, quickly made the rounds on the internet.

Even in his own Formula 1 car, Leclerc has had no luck on the legendary Mediterranean circuit.

He has been unsuccessful in all three of his starts in the past.

The next opportunity is at the Grand Prix on May 29th.

Before that, the next week will be in Barcelona, Spain.

Before the sixth round of the season, Leclerc leads in the overall standings ahead of world champion Max Verstappen.
