The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Committee's Appeals Chamber has decided to reject the appeal filed by Russian chess player Sergei Karjakin, FIDE announced on its official website last week.

This means that Karjakin, who has previously won a ticket to the 2022 World Chess World Championship Candidates, will not be able to participate because of his suspension.

If Karjakin is absent, the Chinese chess player Ding Liren, who is currently ranked second in the world, is expected to qualify for this Candidates Tournament.

The 2022 World Chess Candidates Tournament will kick off on June 16 in Madrid, Spain.

8 participating players will compete for the only qualification through 14 rounds of competition.

The 8 tickets for the previous candidate competition have their own ownership. They are the Russian chess player Nepomniac, who won the 2021 World Chess World Championship runner-up, and the Polish chess player who won the 2021 World Chess World Cup champion and runner-up. Player Duda and Russian player Karjakin, French player Ferroja and American player Caruana who won the 2021 FIDE Grand Prix Championship and runner-up, before the total points of the 2022 FIDE Grand Prix The two American chess players Muramitsu and Hungarian chess player Laporte and wild card chess player Rajapov.

Azerbaijani chess player Rajapov is the champion of the 2019 Chess World Cup.

It is worth mentioning that Karjakin has been suspended by the FIDE on March 21 this year for violating the relevant regulations of the FIDE, and the suspension period is 6 months.

Karjakin then appealed, which has now been dismissed.

Although according to the relevant regulations of the FIDE, Karjakin can also appeal to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport within 21 days, but the industry generally believes that Karjakin can recover his freedom in time before June 16 through this way. Not much.

If Karjakin is ultimately unable to participate in the 2022 World Championship Candidates Tournament, which will be held in Madrid from June 16th to July 5th, in accordance with the provisions of Article 2.3 of the FIDE World Championship Candidate Tournament Regulations: The Candidate Tournament shall be as follows: Supplements are required, and the player with the highest slow chess rating in May 2022 should be invited, provided that the player has played at least 30 slow chess games between June 2021 and May 2022.

In this case, Ding Liren is expected to be eligible for the competition.

On May 1, 2022, the latest slow chess rankings announced by FIDE, Chinese chess player Ding Liren ranked second, second only to world champion Carlsen.

And from June 2021 to May 2022, Ding Liren's slow chess games reached 32 games, so Ding Liren fully meets the supplementary standard.
