19-year-old Maja Åskag started with long jump and triple jump only in 2016, before that she invested in gymnastics at home in Esklistuna.

Last year came the breakthrough for Maja Åskag, in just one month she won double gold at the junior European Championships in Tallinn and double gold at the junior WC in Nairobi.

Successes that gave birth to new expectations.

- So much has changed.

If you think of Maja now and of Maja a year ago, I am not Maja who can be good, but I am there.

I try to keep it as usual as possible, and continue in the direction we have always gone in, says Maja Åskag.

Supported by Klüft

Åskag and her team have chosen to focus on qualifying for the European Championships in Munich, and not mainly at the World Cup in July.

And the shooting star's team is now growing even further, because she is part of the talent initiative athletics' Olympic offensive, which is led by multiple world champion and Olympic gold medalist Carolina Klüft.

During the heyday of almost 20 years ago, Klüft was successful in several branches.

Something that Åskag also wants to continue to invest in - and in two years' time qualify in both long jump and triple jump for the Olympics in Paris.

- It is not a small goal, then I will still be very young, so it will be a see and learn Olympics.

You should not say too much, but 2028 is probably the year I should be the best, says Åskag.
