With only a few rounds left of Serie A, Inter have done what they could to give themselves the best starting position for the team's last two matches.

But it was a long way off.

After half an hour of play, visiting Empoli had taken the lead twice, and had Szymon Zurkowski not been offside, it could have been another.

Martinez began the turnaround

The turnaround began with five minutes left in the first half.

When Simone Romagnoli in an attempt to clear away the ball instead sent it into his own goal, Inter breathed morning air and five minutes later Lautaro Martinez had equalized.

In the second half, it went Inter's way.

Martinez became a two-goal shooter when he put 3-2 and Alexis Sanchez determined the final result by putting 4-2 close to the right post in stoppage time.

The victory means that Inter step up to first place in the league, one point ahead of Milan, who, however, have one match less played.
