The only positive thing about the 2021-2022 season is that Gothenburg HC managed to stay.

Otherwise it was dark.

Just one point and 186 goals conceded in 36 innings can make almost anyone lose interest.

- You are constantly in thoughts and there is a melancholy in it, of course.

Sometimes despair, sometimes sadness, there are many emotions when things are going so badly because we had, I personally think, a team that had greater capacity than we got out of it.

In the end, the responsibility falls on me as chairman when we do not get the best out of the team, the coaching staff and all that and then it is clear that you think about what I did wrong and what I can do differently, says Gothenburg HC: s chairman Jan Mellgren when SVT Sport reaches him on Friday afternoon.

"Joint plan"

He comes from one meeting and is on his way to another when we get hold of him.

In addition to the civilian work, there is a lot to do as chairman of an SDHL team, especially when you are in the process of forming an almost completely new squad.

- We have sat down with all the leaders in the association and talked through what we can do differently, we have talked to players and we have talked to other leaders from SDHL and received tips on what we can do to improve, says Mellgren.

Such as?

- We will have a team that has a coach who will work hard to build a team that works towards a common plan, we obviously failed with that last year.

We did not have a clear direction to work towards and that is a lesson we have learned.

Positive to Frölunda's investment

Right now they have a handful of players under contract.

Many from last year's squad have switched to Frölunda, which will make an investment in the women's and girls' side next season.

- They have taken a bunch of players from us, but I am positive that Frölunda does this.

Every club that starts a women's team with a structure from hockey school all the way up just makes me happy, all teams should really have that.

So I see no concern whatsoever with that.

I hope that Frölunda makes it to the SDHL and that we are also there then, what a wonderful derby it will be, says Mellgren who has great faith in the future and coach Snorri Sigurbergsson who last season was assistant coach in AIK's SDHL team and the Icelandic women's national team.

- He has an accuracy in everything he does, he can make individuals grow at the same time as they contribute to a team.

It feels like we are on the right track, we believe in him a lot and he is also involved in building the squad we are working on.
