Alexander Panomar trains at the Good to great academy in Danderyd for a reason.

- My goal is of course to be the best in the world, to do the very best I can.

I can not predict how it will be, but everything depends on me, he says to SVT Sport.

Two years ago, Panomar won what is usually called the unofficial World Cup for 14-year-olds, a tournament previously won by Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, among others.

Today, he is ranked second among Ukrainian players born in 2006, and 1078 in the world at junior level.

"They are shooting at civilians"

But Russia's invasion of Ukraine has meant a tough time for the player and his family.

The family, who live in Odessa, were forced to flee to Moldova when the city was attacked.

When the situation calmed down a bit, they returned to Odessa.

- I do not know what is happening right now, but they are shooting at civilians, civilian housing and innocent people.

There are lots of videos that show it, says Panomar and continues:

- It happens all over the country, even in Odessa.

We'll see how it goes.

Also want to go home

The 16-year-old is divided.

On the one hand, he, like other athletes, wants to help defend his country.

On the other hand, Panomar does not want to risk his tennis career.

- I would actually also like to go home and defend my country with weapons, but I also want a good tennis career and right now I want to focus on my goal, he says.

- It has been a tough period for me, so I would rather focus on my sport and career.
