After 40 minutes, Alexander Zverev reached the quarterfinals at the Tennis Masters in Madrid.

In his match against Lorenzo Musetti, the Olympic champion benefited from the Italian's thigh problems, who gave up for Zverev when the score was 6: 3, 1: 0.

The first six games between Zverev and Musetti offered attractive tennis, both played their service games confidently and delivered some worth seeing rallies.

When Zverev then managed to break to 4: 3, there was a break in Musetti's game.

The basic strokes were no longer as precise, the serve no longer as reliable, so that Zverev was able to put the 20-year-old Italian under a lot of pressure.

No more resistance

After the first set, Musetti took a break to have his left thigh treated.

When Zverev then got through his service game to make it 1-0 in the second round with practically no resistance, Musetti went to the net for an early handshake.

Zverev's next opponent in the quarter-finals is Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, seeded number eight, or Italian Jannik Sinner (number 10).

Due to the short-term absence of two-time Wimbledon winner Andy Murray (Great Britain), world number one Novak Djokovic had previously reached the quarter-finals without a fight.

Due to illness, Murray did not play in the prestigious round of 16 against Djokovic, who meets number 12 seeded Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the round of eight.

Murray hit Madrid with a wildcard from the organizers.

In the first two rounds, the Olympic champion of London 2012 and Rio 2016 first knocked out the Austrian Dominic Thiem and then the Canadian Dennis Shapovalov from the tournament.
