"Cold, Lillehammer, Davos, cold, stomach ache, Olympics, toilet podium in Lahti, corona, Swedish Championships at home in Piteå, flu."

This is how Emma Ribom sums up the past season in a post on Instagram.

- It feels like I have had sheer bad luck, it feels like I have gone on everything.

I have lived in a bubble because of the corona, but when society opened up, I was like a sponge and sucked everything for myself, says Ribom.

But now, hopefully, the sick days are over.

"I popped a foam"

When SVT Sport reaches Ribom, she is on site in Saxnäs and has just started training again after she fell ill with the flu.

- I am very tagged on a new training season.

I popped a foam so I can finally start training again.

I hope I can be healthy and injury free and get some continuity.

She describes winter as a roller coaster, but at the same time finds bright spots from the season.

- It has been incredibly tough to have to stand by.

But at the same time, I am incredibly proud of the job I have done to bounce back.

It's totally sick anyway, with so many days away I'm doing my best season in the World Cup during my career.

Ribom was only on the starting line during three World Cup weekends, but there she made it all the way to the final in the sprint competitions.

She was also in the finals in the Olympics, where she eventually finished sixth.

- It's a level I have not been to before, I'm proud of.

Also considering the challenges I had with a lot of illness, it's pretty cool anyway.

"Corona is an insidious disease"

It went very well in Lahti at the end of February.

Sweden took a triple with Jonna Sundling as winner, Ribom as second and Maja Dahlqvist third.

But after the weekend, Ribom fell ill with corona.

She describes that period as the heaviest during the season.

- Then I felt that I had started to build momentum.

I felt I was in great shape, I was really looking forward to the sequel.

Corona is such an insidious disease.

When I realized that I would miss Drammen, Holmenkollen and Falun, then it took strength to recharge before the sequel.

Many people thought that you would have your big breakthrough this winter, that the first victory might come, is it next season that it happens?

- Yes, it may take a while longer.

It feels like I've had many tough years.

But he who waits for something good never waits too long.

It is clear that I dream of a victory, absolutely.

This is something I will work for.
