In Spain, you don't trifle with the love of your club, even if it means paying for it with your job.

We had proof of this again this weekend with the formalization of the unilateral termination of Juan Carlos Menudo's contract by Deportivo La Coruña.

According to

El Pais

, the Spanish number 10 was indeed caught lying and declaring himself positive for Covid-19 to miss his team's match, decisive for the rise in the second division, on the lawn of Talavera and go to attend the final. King's Cup between Valencia and Betis, of which he is a recognized historical fan.

The La Coruña match was originally scheduled for Friday, but for reasons of works in the Talavera stadium, it was finally postponed for two days, just hours after the Betis final for which he had already bought his ticket.

It would therefore have been impossible for him to attend the coronation of his heart team (victory of the Sevillians on penalties) without missing the meeting the next day against Talavera.

Menudo had one of the biggest contracts at the club

The Thursday before the match, Menudo therefore decided to try everything for the whole and to be called pale to the medical staff of Depor on the pretext of a positive antigen test for Covid-19.

Not summoned for the 3rd division meeting, he was finally grilled to attend the Valencia-Betis final, in Seville, by his club, who summoned him on his return home.

After denying the facts for a while, the 30-year-old midfielder ended up letting go and admitting his fault.

Fault which will not be forgiven, Depor having invoked an accumulation of serious breaches of the internal code of the club in order to justify the termination of one of the biggest contracts of the team.

All he has to do is go knock on the door of Betis to find out if he is not looking for a midfielder (really) in love with his colors.

Between 5-5-0 and grinta, does “cholismo” still have a future?
