China News Service Client, May 1st. According to the WTT World Table Tennis Federation, the ITTF Executive Committee approved the latest proposal formulated by the World Ranking Working Group.

In order to reduce the impact of the new crown epidemic on the event, the "initial points" introduced in 2020 will be deleted.

It is reported that the player's world ranking will basically consist of the sum of the highest points achieved in 8 stations in the past 12 months.

This objective performance-based algorithm is widely used to determine finalists and seeds for ITTF and WTT World Table Tennis Federation events.

At the same time, the working group has also formulated some special measures to mitigate the impact of the new crown epidemic.

It is reported that the Executive Committee has adopted the following proposals:

  Completely remove "Initial Credits"

The ITTF implemented transitional measures in 2020 to adapt the world rankings to the new WTT tournament structure.

Therefore, the "initial points" is introduced, that is, a fixed number of points are added to the sum of the highest points in the eight stations, and the initial value is 80% of the players' total points in December 2020.

Due to the new crown epidemic and the difficulties in the organization of the event, the "initial points" was implemented for a long time and decreased at a slower rate.

As of January 2022, this has dropped to 20%.

The 2021 and 2022 events give players ample opportunity to earn ranking points.

Removing "Initial Points" allows players who have performed well in recent matches to move up the rankings and move on to higher-level tournaments.

Extend the validity of all points earned during the 2021 high-level events

Taking into account the difficulty of traveling to participate in the competition and the limited number of top-level events, it has been decided to extend the validity period of the points for high-level events in 2021, and the validity period will end in the first week of 2023 at the earliest.

The World Rankings Working Group will pass a resolution by Sunday 1 January 2023 to set the deadline.

Limit the number of junior events that can be counted towards the senior rankings

In general, junior players have played more events this year and last year than senior players, so only a maximum of four junior events can be counted in the senior rankings; the World Rankings Working Group will decide on (or before) January 1, 2023 Review this.

Officials said the above changes will take effect from the ITTF World Rankings in Week 18 of 2022.
