"Respect your career and maintain your legendary status", some football fans called for Parma goalkeeper Gianolegi Buffon to retire after committing a disastrous mistake in his team's match against Perugia in the Italian second division.

The 44-year-old goalkeeper legend returned to his starting team and was immediately given the captain's armband, but this return was not successful and his season with Parma is going from bad to worse.

Parma is currently ranked 13th in the table after losing to Perugia on Monday (1-2), which is the team's 11th loss in the competition this season.

Buffon suffered a large part of the loss, as he failed to clear the ball returning to him from one of his colleagues in the seventh minute, so that Perugia striker Marco Oliveri took advantage of it and scored the second goal for his team.

After the mistake, many tweeted, and demanded the Juventus icon to retire.

  • One of the tweeters said: "I cry for Buffon and his legendary career."

  • While another confirmed: "It's time to retire, Buffon looks tired."

  • And a former Italian international tweeter advised: "Retire, Buffon, you are really a legend, turned into a sports analyst."

  • Another tweeter explained: "Retire, Buffon, because you can no longer run or see the ball."

  • Another pointed out that "Buffon should retire in order to preserve his career and his position."

Despite these calls, Buffon seems to be enjoying his time between the three stages, and has renewed his contract with Parma for two additional seasons, that is, when he becomes 46 years old.

And Buffon won the 2006 World Cup with the Italian national team, and he started his football career in 1995, and played more than a thousand matches.

Buffon also won the Italian League 10 times, and is the most visible player in the Italian national team shirt and in the Italian Football League.
