Despite the Russian war of aggression, Ukrainian football legend Oleg Blokhin does not want to leave the country and expects Ukraine to win the conflict.

"I never intended to go anywhere, I was born here," the former Dynamo Kyiv star forward told Ukrainian television on Saturday.

"When shells fly overhead and a house burns down just 200 meters away, you realize something is wrong in this life."

"Russian aggression" is "under no circumstances acceptable," said the 69-year-old.

"We will win this fight," said the longtime Ukrainian national coach.

Bubka: "I have a broken heart"

Ukrainian pole vault legend Sergei Bubka expressed dismay at the Ukraine war at a meeting in Italy.

"I have a broken heart.

I'm doing everything I can right now to bring peace and save my people," said the current President of the Olympic Committee of Ukraine, according to the Ansa news agency in Rome.

“But we are not alone and that is important.

The entire Olympic movement stands by Ukraine,” he added.

The long-time world record holder in pole vaulting met the President of the Italian Olympic Committee (Coni), Giovanni Malagò, in the Italian capital.

Together they visited Ukrainian athletes of taekwondo, rowing and fencing.

According to Coni, they are currently training for their upcoming competitions in Italy thanks to the association.

"Without Italy we would have no future," said the 58-year-old Bubka.
