Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth is the first to be relegated from the Bundesliga.

The Franconians, who have been bottom of the table since September, can no longer reach the relegation place after the 1: 4 (1: 2) against Bayer Leverkusen on the remaining three game days.

Jetro Willems (5th) put Fürth in the lead with his first Bundesliga goal in front of 11,579 spectators.

But Patrik Schick (9th), Sardar Azmoun (18th), Paulinho (58th) and Exequiel Palacios (84th) destroyed the already low hopes of a football fairy tale in Fürth.

As with their first promotion to the Bundesliga in 2012, Spielvereinigung is returning to the second division after just one season.

Despite an improvement in performance in the second half of the season, the burden of the extremely weak start to the season was too great in the end - the team had only scored one point in the first 14 games and thus paved their way to the second division.

Leverkusen, on the other hand, collected important points in the fight for the Champions League places on Saturday.

The Franconians didn't want to say goodbye without a fight and started the game furiously.

A rebound from Bayer keeper Lukas Hradecky landed on Fürth's starting eleven debutant Jessic Ngankam, who served the free-standing Willems.

The Dutchman scored his first goal from close range in the 68th Bundesliga game.

The growing enthusiasm in the Ronhof sports park did not last long.

After a corner, Schick, who had already scored four goals in the first leg to make it 7-1, hit his heel.

Since the ball came from Fürth's captain Branimir Hrgota, Schick was not offside.

As a result, a lively exchange of blows developed between two teams at eye level - until the big mistake by Kleeblatt goalkeeper Andreas Linde.

The Swede played the ball straight into the foot of the approaching Azmoun - the Iranian thanked him with his first Bundesliga goal.

The decline in Fürth seemed sealed.

Coach Stefan Leitl accepted the deficit without moving.

With the Werkself now dominating the game, Fürth revealed more and more the weaknesses that had already cost them many points this season: simply losing possession in the game going forward and an extremely weak defence.

After the break, the home side initially remained harmless.

Leverkusen was able to manage the lead as they wished and made the preliminary decision a good half hour before the end.

After a fine one-two with Azmoun, Paulinho stumbled first.

In the second attempt, however, the Brazilian was able to push the ball over the line.

Although nobody in Fürth believed in a miracle anymore, the game association pressed for the goal.

But instead, Leverkusen scored the fourth goal.
