It's unprecedented.

Referee Stéphanie Frappart will become the first woman to lead a Coupe de France final, after being appointed this Thursday to whistle Nice-Nantes, May 7 at the Stade de France, announced the French Football Federation.

Already the first woman to referee a Ligue 1 match in 2019, the European Super Cup the same year and then in the Men's Champions League at the end of 2020, she has also been selected in recent days among the referees for the Women's Euro, scheduled in July.

“Serious work and performance”

“His designation rewards both his serious work and his performance.

It is amply deserved, ”comments Pascal Garibian, technical director of arbitration at the FFF.

In the same press release, Stéphanie Frappart said she was "happy and proud" of this appointment, decided by the executive committee of the Federation.

The 38-year-old referee regularly officiates in L1 and had already been on the whistle during Euro-2017 and during the World Cup-2019 for women's competitions.

During the men's Euro last summer, she notably acted as a fourth referee during the opening match between Italy and Turkey.

Stéphanie Frappart is one of the pioneers of refereeing, like the Swiss Nicole Petignat, the first woman to officiate in the UEFA Cup in 2003, or the German Bibiana Steinhaus, the first female referee in a major European championship.
