The gymnasts that Nassar had taken care of as a national team doctor reported the abuse in 2015, but it took a year and a half before Nassar was arrested.

Last year, the US Department of Justice investigators determined that the FBI had made fundamental mistakes after finding out about the allegations.

- We spend so much energy and resources on encouraging children to come forward if they are involved in abuse.

So the fact that they appeared before the most powerful law enforcement agency in the world and were rejected is a slap in the face, says lawyer Jamie White.

"Disgust me"

However, White is not suing the FBI yet.

Under federal law, a claim for damages must be filed with a government agency, which then has six months to respond.

A trial could follow depending on the FBI's response.

- No one would have been harassed after the summer of 2015 because the FBI would have done its job.

Knowing that the FBI could have helped prevent this trauma disgusts me, says Grace French, one of Nasser's victims.

The American Gymnastics Federation, the US Olympic Committee (Usoc) and the organizations' insurance companies have already been sentenced to pay damages to the victims totaling $ 380 million (close to SEK 3.5 billion).

Nassar was sentenced to a total of 360 years in prison for his crimes.
