The former Munich amateur coach Erik ten Hag is supposed to lead the English football record champions Manchester United back to old strength.

The 52-year-old Dutchman will come to the "Red Devils" from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer and will receive a contract until 2025. This was announced by the club from interim team manager Ralf Rangnick.

The contract also includes an option for an additional season.

Ten Hag, coach of the second team in the regional league at FC Bayern from 2013 to 2015, spoke of a "great honor".

He was "determined to develop a team that will deliver the success" that United fans deserve.

Leaving the Dutch record champions Ajax, with whom he won the double in 2019 and 2021, after four and a half “incredible” years was “difficult”, he confessed.

United club director John Murtough called ten Hag one of "the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe".

He stands for attractive attacking football, relies on youth and has "deeply impressed" the bosses in the talks.

Rangnick played a key role in signing his successor.

He is set to remain with United in an advisory capacity after the season is over, but his exact role is unclear.
