In connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Finnish Jokerit jumped out of the KHL playoffs.

Since then, there has been speculation about what the future holds for the Helsinki team.

Just over two weeks ago, the KHL announced that Jokerit had decided to leave the league altogether, but then it was still clear what would happen to Jokerit in the future.

"A lot of work left"

Now the Finnish club announces that they will not have a representative team in any series next season, but that they aim to return to the Finnish league for the 2023-24 season.

- We have a lot of work left to do to get a league affiliation, and I am currently looking for people who can own the club with me.

I am convinced that we will meet all the criteria required by the Finnish league, says the Helsinki team's main owner Jari Kurri, on the association's website.

"To be honest"

Jokerit's participation in the KHL has been extremely controversial in Finland.

- During the time in the KHL, Jokerit has systematically worked to develop Finnish hockey.

Our goal has been to create the best possible conditions for players and coaches.

At the same time, we must be honest and say that issues concerning things off the ice have affected the club's reputation.

We do everything we can to restore people's trust in the Jokerit, says Kurri.

Three Swedes this year

Two Swedish players, Anders Lindbäck and Philip Holm, had a contract with Jokerit over the next season, but now need to look for new clubs.

John Norman also played in the team last season.

Despite the fact that Jokerit will not have a national team next year, they announce on their website that the club's junior activities will continue as usual.
