In the second match of the final series of the Gagarin Cup, Metallurg had to beat CSKA.

In the first meeting, Magnitogorsk were defeated with a score of 1:3 and were actually pressed against the wall.

Indeed, in the event of a second failure on home ice, their chances of winning the trophy threatened to drop sharply.

CSKA, on the contrary, received an important charge of self-confidence.

Before the game, Ilya Vorobyov made several changes in the squad.

In particular, forward Nikita Korostelev, who missed a couple of weeks due to injury, returned to action.

He took a place in the first link and joined the company of Andrey Chibisov and Josh Curry.

But Semyon Koshelev and Pavel Akolzin remained out of the application.

Sergei Fedorov did not begin to make changes to the composition that won the victory.

The hosts, as expected, immediately tried to suppress the opponent, unleashing a flurry of attacks on the gates of Ivan Fedotov.

Hockey players "Magnitogorsk" at high speed flew into someone else's zone and tried at any opportunity to send the puck to the penny.

The goalkeeper of CSKA regularly had work to do - only in the first period, opponents made 15 shots against 12 for the guests.

However, the army team periodically responded with unpleasant counterattacks.

For example, Claes Dahlbeck ran almost one on one with Vasily Koshechkin, but missed the target.

Soon, the Muscovites made an interception in the other half, and Konstantin Okulov almost opened the score after an excellent transfer from Vladislav Provolnev.

But in the seventh minute, Metallurg got their way.

Artyom Zemchenok performed an excellent throw to the penny from the starboard side, and Philippe Maillet put the club in a timely manner.

For the Canadian, this goal was the seventh in the playoffs.

Moreover, all the meetings in which he had previously managed to distinguish himself ended in victory for the team.

After scoring, Magnitogorsk immediately tried to build on their success and missed a few good moments.

One Brendan Leipsik delivered a couple of nasty shots, but Fedotov acted above all praise at the last frontier.

Inspired by the game of his goalkeeper, CSKA gradually came to his senses and took over the initiative towards the middle of the period.

Now Koshechkin had to prove himself.

I especially remember the double save after Andrey Svetlakov's click and finishing off Okulov.

The army team sometimes tried to literally bring the puck to the penny from behind the gate in the hope of a rebound.

Shortly before the break, the teams exchanged removals.

Artyom Sergeev received two minutes for hitting an opponent with a knee, and Maxim Karpov served a team penalty.

But the majority of the team disposed of not in the best way and could not change the score.

But the second period was marked by a real hail of goals: for two, the opponents scored seven times.

They began to move forward more boldly and pay less attention to defense, which led to the creation of a huge number of chances.

The teams made 22 shots, and almost a third of them were successful.

Returning from the locker room, CSKA turned on their trademark high pressure, and it paid off.

Vitaliy Abramov received a pass from Pavel Karnaukhov in a quick break and hit the ball right into the far corner.

Koshechkin failed to save his partners, because he was closed by Semyon Pankratov.

Metallurg's answer turned out to be lightning fast.

Linus Hultstrom was marked by a powerful click from an average distance into the near nine.

Fedotov, unlike his counterpart, saw everything, but did not react and did not help the team.

But the army team bounced back after just seven seconds.

They won the face-off in the middle zone and ran to the other side's goal.

Mikhail Grigorenko after the transfer of Artyom Sergeev again equalized the score.

Along the way, opponents set a new rate of fire record for the Gagarin Cup finals.

The previous one belonged to Ak Bars and Lokomotiv, which scored twice in 14 seconds in 2009.

And the teams took only nine minutes and 33 seconds to five goals - this is also a new achievement for decisive games.

However, if the Muscovites added to the attack, then they began to make a large number of mistakes in defense.

The couple Darren Dietz - Bogdan Kiselevich acted especially unsuccessfully.

At the 26th minute, Arkhip Nekolenko was allowed to hit the gate from a penny - 3:2.

The guests made a similar mistake in the situation with Denis Zernov's goal.

The forward calmly took the puck at someone else's goal, processed it and threw it with a rebound from the crossbar.

In the interval between these two episodes, the balance was once again restored by Anton Slepyshev.

However, the end of the period still remained with the hosts.

Shortly before the break, Fedotov, who for the first time in his career missed more than three times in the KHL playoffs, unsuccessfully released the puck from the trap, and Laipsik immediately sent it to the target - 5:3.

But Koshechkin showed himself well done and made two key saves.

In particular, he did not allow Alexander Popov to send a projectile into the net from close range, sprawling on the ice.

It seemed that in the final 20 minutes CSKA would unleash a flurry of attacks on the opponent's goal, but this did not happen.

Hockey players of Metallurg competently retreated to the defense and, taking advantage of the voids in the opponent's zone, regularly ran away to counterattacks.

The army team did not have many chances and made only seven shots.

Even if they managed to send the puck on target, Koshechkin acted reliably at the last line, unlike Fedotov.

I remember only a couple of unpleasant episodes for him.

Immediately after the break, Provolnev struck a strong flick into the near corner, but the goalkeeper left the shield there.

In another episode, he coped with a dangerous wrist attack from Slepyshev.

Unnecessary removal finally put an end to the attempts of the guests to escape.

First, Pavel Karnaukhov pushed his opponent on board, and then Sergey Plotnikov hit Laipsik after the referee's signal.

In the minority, Muscovites did not miss, but lost a lot of time.

And in the 54th minute, Metallurg put a beautiful end to the match.

Nikolai Goldobin ran to the other side's goal, moved from the right edge to the center and, having removed a couple of defenders along the way, struck a throw at random.

And again, Fedotov, who missed the puck between the shields, did not play the best way.

CSKA managed to answer this only shortly before the final siren, when Okulov converted the majority.

However, it was already too late.

Magnitogorsk won a major victory in a super-successful confrontation and equalized the score in the series.

The next two matches will be held in Moscow.
