Toronto was in the NHL already at the founding in 1917, and can thus without hesitation be called one of the league's most classic clubs.

They have won the Stanley Cup second most times of all (13), and have many successful seasons in their luggage.

Double club record

But the fact is that the current NHL season is the club's most successful ever.

Last night, when they won 4-2 against the New York Islanders, a new club record was secured in both the number of victories (50) and points (106) in one season.

- We have worked hard since last summer and it is of course nice to see that the efforts give results.

But we are chasing another, bigger prize, says William Nylander, who scored a goal and an assist in tonight's match, to Aftonbladet.

Fewer goals than he thought

Nylander's goal means that he has now scored 31 goals this season, tangent to personal best.

Something he did not know until after the match, according to TSN.

- I thought I had done more, he said with a laugh, before continuing:

- You want to break such records, but in the end it's just a matter of getting ready for the playoffs.

It's my job to score goals, so hopefully I can do some more.

Pierre Engvall also scored a goal for Toronto, whose victory also meant that Washington took the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and that the New York Islanders missed the playoffs.
