Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese national team and top scorer for Manchester United, announced today, Monday, the death of one of his two newborn children.

In a joint statement with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez on social media, Ronaldo said, "It is with deep sadness that we announce that our infant son has passed away. It is the greatest pain any parent can feel."

"Only the birth of our daughter gives us the strength to live through this moment with some hope and happiness," he explained.

Ronaldo concluded by saying, "We are all devastated by this loss, and we ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our little boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

Ronaldo announced last year that he and his girlfriend will have twins, knowing that the Portuguese star already has 4 children.
