When Moulham Abboud came to Sweden in 2012, he was an established water polo player in his native Syria.

Through contacts and a number of enthusiasts in Ängelholm's water polo business, Moulham was eventually able to resume training and games with the help of the club.

And despite the fact that Swedish water polo at national team level has led a particularly withdrawn existence for more than a decade, the goal was always games in blue and yellow.

- I set the personal goal that whenever there is a Swedish national team in water polo, I will be ready to take a place and represent Sweden, he says.

Swedish water polo breathes morning air

When Sweden recently defeated Finland 15-7 in an international match, it was also the first time in just over ten years that the national team played a match at all.

After a long national team appearance on both the men's and women's side, things are starting to happen in Swedish water polo.

This summer, the Swedish men's national team will travel to the Czech Republic to play the Euro Nations Cup, in order to eventually be able to establish a stable national team activity in Swedish water polo.

- I think we can take a place among the top eight in the tournament, says Moulham Abboud.

We have a good team, we know the coach, the association supports us, we have good chances to put Sweden on the water polo map in the future.
