During the race at the Avachinsky ski marathon in Kamchatka, he felt unwell and subsequently died one of its participants, 61-year-old Iskandar Galimov.

As it turned out later, he was the head of the Central District of the city of Naberezhnye Chelny.

According to the organizers of the race, the man had a medical clearance to participate in the competition - a certificate from the city polyclinic of Naberezhnye Chelny.

“Valid for health reasons, can participate in ski marathons,” the document says.

Before the start, the organizers checked Galimov's certificate, he did not complain about his health.

The man went to the start of the 60-kilometer freestyle distance and overcame most of it.

He became ill about 20 km before the finish line.

Other participants in the race, who were nearby on the track, called rescuers.

Chelninets was evacuated to the sports complex.

Fatyanova in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where the resuscitation vehicle was on duty.

But the doctors at that time were already powerless and only stated death.

The cause of the incident has not yet been established.

The mayor's office of Naberezhnye Chelny confirmed that the deceased in Kamchatka was the head of the administration of the Central District of the city.

He has held his post since 2012, and before that he was in charge of the apparatus of the executive committee and the department of organizational and analytical work.

Even earlier, Galimov worked as a physics teacher and school director.

As it became known to Sport-Express, he was considered one of the most athletic officials in Naberezhnye Chelny: he regularly participated in competitions, had the first category in cross-country skiing.

On February 28, Galimov took third place in his age group at a distance of 20 km of the Kama marathon.

“Iskandar Nurgalyamovich was known as a responsible and wise leader, a person with an active life position, with a strong and purposeful character.

His selfless work was an example of conscientious and honest work for the benefit of Chelny residents,” the message on the city’s official website reads.

The administration stressed that numerous colleagues will remember Galimov as a true professional with rich life experience.

“He was not only a talented manager, but also a decent, sympathetic and benevolent person.

We will forever keep the bright memory of Iskandar Nurgalyamovich in our hearts.

Strength and patience to all relatives and friends to survive this difficult time of loss, ”the statement said.

At the Avachinsky marathon, this is the second death in the last two years.

Last year, a 60-year-old cross-country skier died on the same track after a blood clot broke off during a race.

According to eyewitnesses, the skier fell in the middle of the track, other participants immediately ran to him and carried him to the side of the road.

Among them was a professional rescuer, but resuscitation did not help - death occurred instantly.

According to a member of the Presidium of the Federation of Ski Racing of Russia (FLGR) Sergey Kryanin, two sad events are most likely not connected with each other and with the features of the track.

According to him, in Russia there are many races with much more difficult terrain - for example, in Demino.

“I think this is a tragic accident, from which, unfortunately, no one is immune.

Either the doctor allows the start of the race, or the participant himself takes on such responsibility.

And if a person has a desire to run a distance and he has no contraindications, we cannot forbid him, ”Kryanin said in an interview with RT.

He noted that for veterans and age-old skiers, participating in such races is a way to keep themselves not only physically, but also mentally.

“I always cite as an example our veteran Viktor Yakovlevich Bashmakov, who died at the age of 93.

Almost until the last day he went skiing.

There were times when he was taken to the hospital from training.

And he said this: "I'd rather die on the ski track than with a duck under the bed."

He lived alone, and skiing helped him not to give up, to keep a clear mind and stay afloat.

At the age of 85, he went to award ceremonies and recited poetry!”

Kryanin said.

Ilya Kurbatov became the winner of the Avachinsky marathon for men, and Anastasia Kuleshova for women.

The second place among women was taken by the biathlete of the Russian national team Irina Kazakevich, who celebrated her victory in Kamchatka last year.

The President of the Russian Biathlon Union Viktor Maigurov also took part in the race, finishing in 90th place.
