Real Madrid succeeded in qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after a historic match against Chelsea that did not lose sight of the controversy over arbitration cases and the role of referee decisions in determining the final outcome of the match.

Real Madrid returned from afar and scored two goals that reduced their loss against Chelsea to 3-2, to snatch the pass to the semi-finals after winning the first leg at Stamford Bridge 3-1.

Polish referee Simon Marciniak denied Chelsea a goal scored by defender Marcos Alonso in the 62nd minute, a decision that angered Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel.

"I did not see the goal, but I am very disappointed that he did not go and review the goal himself," Tuchel said. "You have to be in control and not leave the decision in the hands of an isolated person outside the field."

And the German coach hinted at giving referees an advantage for Real Madrid, and said he felt that the referees might "not have the courage" to take decisions against the royal club.

Did the referee make a mistake in canceling Alonso's goal?

The referee rejected the goal of the Spanish defender because he touched the ball with his right hand before shooting the ball towards the Real Madrid goal. Rule 12 of the Football Law stipulates that the goal is not counted if the player touches the ball with his hand, regardless of whether the touch is intentional or accidental.

Which means that the referee's decision was correct.

Arbitration expert Jamal Al-Sharif explains the validity of the ruling in this passage:

A goal was enough to qualify #Chelsea to the semi-finals of the #Champions_League and the exclusion of #Real_Madrid..

The referee canceled the ruling on the pretext that there was a handball even though it was an unintended hand touch, so what is the story?
