Former Colombian soccer captain Freddy Rincón has been operated on after a traffic accident in the hospital and taken to the intensive care unit.

His condition was "still critical," said a statement from the Clínica Imbanaco in the Colombian metropolis of Cali on Monday (local time).

Rincón and several other people were injured in an accident in southern Cali, according to Colombian media, citing authorities.

Rincon was operated on for almost three hours and then transferred to the intensive care unit in a "very critical condition", said a spokesman for the clinic.
