Sophie Hansson came home from the 2021 World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi with two gold, one silver and two bronze.

A real breakthrough for the 23-year-old from Helsingborg.

- It means a lot.

These were the first World Cup medals I won both as a team and individually.

It has given me a lot of self-confidence and more taste.

"Trained differently"

In recent years, she has spent time at North Carolina State University in the United States.

The time there has laid the foundation for success.

- It has done a lot.

The training there has been very hard and very different from how I trained in Sweden, she says and continues:

- Above all, I have learned to run a maximum of very many races in a short time.

It has made me very much stronger mentally.

"Tagged on something new"

Hansson will graduate later this spring and has previously confirmed that she will leave the United States for Europe.

Now you are going to leave, how will it be?

- It'll be fun.

I am tagged on something new and getting an environmental change.

I really believe in it to be able to take the next step.

I have had a lot of fun and had four good years, but I look forward to what the future has to offer.

She does not yet know where the moving load is going.

- I have not really decided yet.

Either I move to Stockholm or I follow my sister's trail and move to Loughborough in England.

The World Cup is the big goal

During the week she competes in the Swim Open at Eriksdalsbadet in Stockholm.

- I want to enter the long distance competition as I have not competed long distance since the Olympics.

It will be fun to see where you stand.

Then depending on how it goes this week, I can see what I need to do to be as fast as possible at the World Cup.

During the year, both the European Championships and the World Cup await.

The big goal is to settle for the medals at the World Championships in Budapest.

- It will be a very intense summer with a special layout.

It will be very fun and intense with both the World Cup and the European Championships.

But I have my big goal set for the World Cup, she says and continues:

- I think I can be part of the fight for the medals.
