Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has apologized after he appeared to remove a mobile phone from a fan's hand after his team's 1-0 defeat at Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Videos on social media showed Ronaldo knocking the phone to the ground as he exited the stadium towards the dressing room at Goodison Park.

Eyewitnesses said that the 37-year-old toppled a fan's phone in his hand and crashed to the ground.

Ronaldo apologized for this incident through his account on the Instagram application.

"It is not easy to deal with feelings in difficult moments like the ones we face, however we must always be respectful and patient, and be a role model for all young people who love this beautiful game," he said.

"I would like to apologize for my anger and, if possible, invite this fan to watch a game at Old Trafford," he added, referring to fair play and sportsmanship.

The "Red Devils" club told Reuters that it was following up on the incident.

United are seventh in the league and face the possibility of missing the Champions League next season, as they are 6 points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who is fourth.
