Gaël Monfils should have played Monday against the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (14th in the world) his first match at the Masters 1000 of Monte-Carlo since his lost final in 2016. The Frenchman finally passes his turn again.

The 22nd in the world announced his withdrawal on Sunday due to an injury to his right foot which has handicapped him for “a few days”.

“Today, I had a final imagery and finally it's not going in the right direction.

At this point in my career, it's better to rest a bit to get the big goals I have.

We made the decision to withdraw, unfortunately, from the tournament again, ”explained Monfils.

Do not grill for Roland-Garros

“I have had foot pain for a few days, since Miami,” he said, stressing however that he had hoped to play the Monegasque tournament on clay until the last moment.

"I arrived here, I had a good week of training," he said.

At 35, Monfils finally preferred to take it easy, while Roland-Garros is due to start on May 22.
