Jessica von Bredow-Werndl beamed happily at the audience and patted her horse after winning the Dressage World Cup 2022. The 36-year-old from Tuntenhausen in Bavaria secured the title on Saturday evening in Leipzig in front of around 7000 spectators with her mare Dalera.

She received 90.836 percent.

Second place went to Denmark's Cathrine Dufour with Vamos Amigos (86.164).

"I'm just happy," said the double Olympic champion.

She achieved the first dressage home win at a World Cup final in Germany.

"The fact that there are two of me in the saddle is something very special," said von Bredow-Werndl, who is pregnant and will miss the World Championships in Denmark in August.

Isabell Werth came third with Weihegold (85.921).

After the freestyle, she was greeted with applause from the arena with a “consecration”.

The 52-year-old record rider was visibly touched during her last ride with the mare.

"The feelings and the atmosphere were wonderful," commented Werth, who last used the 17-year-old Weihegold in a competition in Leipzig.

"She did a great job," said the record rider, who had previously won the World Cup with Weihegold three times in a row and was now replaced by her former student as the title holder at the unofficial World Indoor Championships.

"I also had a bit of goosebumps at the end!" The third German starter was Helen Langehanenberg from Billerbeck, who finished sixth with her mare Annabelle.

"I'm a little annoyed with myself," said Langehanenberg.

She had "risked a little too much".

A home win is rather unlikely for the show jumpers.

However, Gerrit Nieberg can hope for a podium place before the final stage.

Before the final two rounds on Sunday (2:45 p.m.), the 28-year-old from Sendenhorst and his gelding Ben are fifth in the overall standings with six penalty points.

"Double clear is the plan," said the son of team Olympic champion Lars Nieberg before the two rounds of the third stage: "I'm confident for Sunday." He wasn't nervous, said the World Cup debutant: "I'll be relaxed deal with it.” The leader of the classification is the American McLain Ward with Contagious (0 penalty points) ahead of the Dutchman Harrie Smolders (4) and the Briton Harry Charles (5).

Second best of five German starters is David Will from Marburg with C Four in eleventh place.
