After ten years of absence, the French Grand Prix returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2018, on the Paul-Ricard circuit in Le Castellet.

But the Var stage is threatened with extinction in 2023, when new races have been announced.

“I am very happy to discover new circuits”, reacted Esteban Ocon, on the sidelines of the Australian GP disputed this weekend.

But the Alpine driver quickly indicated: “I will do everything I can to try to keep the French GP on the calendar.

"It's very special for us to go there every year," continued one of the two Habs in the paddock, with Pierre Gasly.

The latter reacted in the same way as Ocon.

“As a Frenchman, I will always support the Grand Prix de France”, underlined the AlphaTauri driver, according to whom “the motivation, the energy, the atmosphere, it is something that you can only feel in his native country ".

"I really hope we can see the French GP in the next few years," he continued.

If the decision depended only on him, “I would have already signed the contract”.

Only it's not, and Gasly made it clear that it was “great to see the new tracks like Miami, Vegas, all these super fun places” added to the schedule.

United States in force

At the end of March, the promoter of the Formula 1 championship announced the arrival of the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2023, thus marking the third F1 race in the United States for next season after the GPs of Austin and Miami, whose first edition will be contested on May 8th.

The announcement of this race comes at a time when the calendar for the 2022 season already includes a record total of 23 Grands Prix.

If several of the races contested this season are not yet guaranteed to be on the calendar next year, Stefano Domenicali had assured earlier in March that there was "potential to go up to 24" Grands Prix in a season. .

The Concorde Accords governing F1's governance and revenue distribution currently limit the number of races per season to 24.
