On Tuesday afternoon, the news came that the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and the NHL are signing a new agreement that regulates the compensation for the Swedish players who go to North America and the NHL.

The new agreement extends for eight years and will take effect from the 2022/2023 season.

- SHL and Swedish ice hockey maintain a very strong level internationally, we see this in the number of Swedish players in the NHL.

The clubs in SHL and other leagues in foster many Swedish talents and the new agreement will be important in ensuring the continued development, says Johan Hemlin in a statement on SHL's website.

A large increase compared to before

The agreement means that Swedish hockey will receive 381,000 dollars per player, of which 20,000 dollars for players who are drafted and 35,000 dollars for players who are drafted in the first round go directly to the Swedish Hockey Association.

The remaining amount goes to the Swedish clubs.

Johan Hemlin explains that the agreement entails an increase of SEK 600,000.

After the first four years, the amount will be further increased.
