The 34-year-old striker, who has been in big clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain and now plays in American Racing Louisville, made headlines on Friday the first of April when she published the news on her social media and then dismissed it all as an April Fool's joke.

Now, however, it is clear that Nadim, who has previously been criticized for his beautiful painting of Qatar, is an ambassador for the championship that begins in November.

Corruption allegations

Nadim's collaboration with Fifa and the World Cup is controversial for several reasons.

Especially since the championship is surrounded by allegations of corruption and the country is accused of violating human rights.

Nadim was born in Afghanistan, and lived there until she fled the country to Denmark at the age of twelve, after her father was executed by the Taliban.

And the Taliban in particular have close ties with the regime in Qatar.

"We must distance ourselves"

Nadim has received harsh criticism from several quarters for his collaboration with the World Cup organizers.

- We must distance ourselves from the things that are happening over there.

As an ambassador, I think you paint a picture of what is going on in Qatar.

We as the Players 'Association and national team can not stand for that, says for example the Danish players' association's chairman Jeppe Curth, to Danish TV2.

Agent: Nadim unconscious

Nadia Nadim's agent is Swedish Michael Kallbäck.

He claims that Nadim is not aware of the harsh criticism.

- She has not even taken part in the criticism.

She does not read Danish media, she does not have notices on her social media.

She has not lived in Denmark for eight to ten years, says Kallbäck to SVT Sport, and does not want to comment on the criticism or explain why Nadim chose to become World Cup ambassador:

- I have no comment on that either.

If something is said, she will say it.

When do you think she will do it?

- Ahead of the World Cup, I would think.

November-December.

So nothing in the near future?

- No no.
