The Joker, who has played in the KHL since the 2014/15 season, withdrew from the league before the playoffs.

Since then, there has been speculation about what the future holds for the Helsinki team.

Whether there will be games in any Finnish league next year is still unclear, but now it is at least clear that there will be no games in the KHL season 2022/23.

Two Swedes with a contract

Today, the KHL board decided that next season will consist of 22 teams - the lowest figure in the league's history.

One of the teams that disappears is Jokerit.

- When we communicated with the clubs (Jokerit and Dinamo Riga, who also withdrew from the league), we were told that they would not be with.

We do not know what will happen to these clubs and how the political situation will develop in these countries, says KHL chairman Alexei Morozov, according to the Russian site Championat.

Two Swedish players, Anders Lindbäck and Philip Holm, have a contract with Jokerit over the next season.

John Norman also played in the team last season.
