Favorite-tipped IFK Gothenburg won 2-1 in front of packed stands but Värnamo offered strong opposition and was not completely without a chance to get a point.

The fact that it was his son Simon who started the goal shooting for Gothenburg toned down the manager and father Jonas.

- I did not focus so much on that but I worked with ours.

After a heavy start, Gothenburg pushed us down completely, it was important to get our game in order not to see who played on the other side, says Thern, bronze hero from the 1994 World Cup, to SVT Sport.

"Not fun when you are on the other side"

It must be twofold to see Simon make such a beautiful goal?

- No, it's not fun when you are on the other side but it's fun for him of course.

But it was not fun for us and that is what is important, what we achieve and what we do.

I have met him sometime before too so it was not the first time, says Thern.

- There is little to take with you even in the bitterness of having lost.

Will it be dinner with Simon now?

- No, it will not be but it will be a bus ride home and there is not much to pray for when you get home but it feels damn bitter.

It turned out as it did, we had high hopes for this match and we really had nothing to lose but Gothenburg was on the podium and I have to congratulate them.
