Defending champion Inter Milan scored a controversial penalty kick in the first half to win 1-0 away to Juventus in the Italian Football League on Sunday.

Juventus missed several scoring opportunities, the most dangerous of which was the veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini, and he paid the price when Inter got a penalty kick at the end of the first half after returning to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Juventus resented the award of the kick, but was enraged by the referee's decision to retake the kick after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczecin blocked Hakan Calhanoglu's shot.

The Turkish midfielder took the penalty kick for the second time and scored the only goal.

Juventus suffered its first loss in the league since November, to freeze its score at 59 points in fourth place, four points behind Inter, third in the standings, and seven points from the leaders Milan and Napoli.
