On Friday, Nadim posted a couple of posts on Instagram where she wrote that she is now one of the World Cup's ambassadors, something that many thought was an April Fool's joke due to the massive criticism of Qatar when it comes to human rights, including from Denmark.

In a video, she says that she is looking forward to being an ambassador for the first World Cup in the Middle East because she herself has her roots in the region - she was born in Afghanistan.

During the evening, she also posted a video from the playoff draw in Doha.

"Her free choice"

In any case, the Danish players' association in football distances itself from Nadim's decision.

- It is of course her free choice to do so, but we in the players' association distance ourselves from the World Cup finals based on, among other things, how Qatar was awarded the World Cup through corruption, how to treat migrant workers, their views on LGBTQIA + people and so on, says association director Michael Sahl to the Ritzau news agency.

- There are lots of arguments as to why one should not support that country.

Nadim was criticized after visiting and painting Qatar beautifully in December.

She should then have said that Qatar is a country that helps people in need.

But according to British The Guardian, at least 6,500 migrant workers, who have been involved in building World Cup arenas, have lost their lives in Qatar since the country was awarded the World Cup.

Qatar has also been accused of sportswashing, for washing its tarnished reputation through sporting events.
