Find out who Guardiola nominated to succeed him as Manchester City coach

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, the champion and leader of the English Premier League, said that Erik ten Hag, coach of Ajax Amsterdam, may be a strong candidate to succeed him at the helm of the technical staff of City.

Expectations also nominate Ten Hag to take over the training of Manchester United when the contract of his current temporary coach, German Ralf Rangnick, expires at the end of this season.

"Can Ten Hag take over City? Sure. I think he might be the candidate for the job because of his approach to the game. That's for sure," Guardiola told British media on Friday.

Guardiola had dealt with Ten Hag for two seasons when he was coach of Bayern Munich, and Ten Hag was coach of the second-tier team of the Bavarian club.

Ten Hag coached Ajax Amsterdam during the 2017-2018 season and led the team to winning the Eredivisie title in the 2019 and 2021 seasons, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019.

Guardiola added, "Just look at Ajax under his leadership in recent years to know what capabilities he has. With some small details, the team could have qualified for the (Champions League) final."

Ten Hag said in televised statements that he does not rule out leaving Ajax Amsterdam in the summer.
